Exhibition Voyeurism And Privacy
Visibility never replaces permission
Understanding the subject
Exhibitionism and voyeurism concern being seen or observing within negotiated boundaries. Venue attendance does not imply consent to photography, participation, touching, or sharing identifying information.
Negotiation and preparation
Ask whether observation is allowed, where observers may stand, and whether any activities are private. Follow venue rules about phones and recording. Seek explicit permission before discussing someone’s identity, attendance, or scene outside the event.
During and after participation
If someone asks for privacy, respect it immediately. Do not pressure them to explain. Report unwanted recording or boundary violations to staff through established procedures.
Risks and misconceptions
Being visible in a shared space is not blanket permission for spectators to interrupt or join. Consent applies to everyone involved, including people nearby.
